History of Cefalu

The name Cefalu is of Greek origin and was first mentioned in 396 BC. By the 9th Century the town was conquered by Arabs and renamed Gafludi but a few centuries later the Normans took control. By climbing up the staircase to the Salita Saraceno there are wonderful views of the town. It does however take half an hour but the views make it worthwhile. For art lovers there is the Osteria Magno which is a 14th Century mansion that has been altered over the years but is still impressive.
