Deauville, which is pronounced ?Do-vil?, is located in the Basse-Normandie region of northwestern France. It is quite unlike any other beach location in France, with history going back centuries, and an air of ostentation throughout.
Deauville was the place to be back when Duc de Morny was enjoying the hospitality in 1860. The word here is high class and customer service levels that go to extremes to please. In a way, it doesn't feel very French at all. And yet, the Norman architecture is clearly evident throughout and the sense of history is everywhere.
Efforts to modernize, where appropriate, are a-foot. Film festivals, such as the Deauville festival of American film, brings such luminaries like ?Ocean's 11? featured actors George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon to town. World class golf courses, the most decadent hotels, gaming casinos, and horse racing courses are all here. Still, the most effort is given over to providing the highest quality service to the rich and famous who appreciate the attentiveness.
The number of four and five star hotels in Deauville is impressive. Majestic hotels offering 200+ rooms, all festooned with antiques, charm and prestige. The most notable hotel chain is the Groupe Lucien Barriere that operates over ten world class hotels and many more casinos, across France. Hotel Royal Barriere has a long history, is perfectly located between the beach and other local activities, and their casino is conveniently located next door to the hotel itself. Other luxurious hotels include the five star Normandy Hotel and four star Hotel du Golf Barriere, the latter which has its own golf course and is beautifully located a short drive outside of Deauville.
Horse racing is very popular in Deauville. The principal course is the Deauville-La Touques Racecourse. There are a number of important races that run in select months during the year. These are often named after famous past residents like the Rothchild family or Le Morny.
With so much to do and see in Deauville, including a short drive across to neighboring Trouville, golf courses, race courses and a wealth of other activities, hiring a car is quite necessary. Details on pricing and vehicle selection for car hire in Deauville, is available at Anycarhire.com.
