The summers in the city tend to be hot but sticky because of the East Asian Monsoon and the winters tend to be windy, cold and dry, influenced by the Siberian anticyclone. During the spring, there are chances of sandstorms. There is very little rain in the fall, and the autumn weather is typically short and crisp.

There are many places of interest within the city. One of the most intriguing is the “Forbidden City.” This is a large palace compound where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties ruled. The Palace Museum contains over 5000 years of traditional art from the country. The museum also offers a rich concentration of artefacts and architecture inspired by the Ming and Qing dynasties. There are several imperial gardens that surround the city, including; Shichahai, Zhongnanhai, and Beihai, which are described as being the ultimate masterpieces in the art of Chinese’s gardening.

The National Palace Museum offers a look into the arts and the history of the country. The goal of the museum is to educate about the country’s culture and inheritance. The Ministry of Culture directs the museum.
