Nice

Nice is located in the southeast of France. The city is the 5th largest city in the country. Nice la Belle is what the city is called, which in English means Nice, the Beautiful. This is also the title of the anthem for the city. It is the capital of Alpes Maritimes. The location of Nice is thought to be one of the first areas where humans settled in the European area.

The area of Nice enjoys a Mediterranean climate, which means the city has mild temperatures throughout the year. There are moderate amounts of rain, which is only seen during the winter months. Summers are generally warm, sunny, and relatively dry. Typically, during July there may be only one or two days that have recordable amounts of rainfall. During the warmest months of the year, July and August, the city averages temperatures of around 27 degrees Celsius. Winter temperatures, which start around December and last through February, see milder temperatures of around 11 to 17 degrees Celsius.

Nice is popular among tourists, falling only behind Paris as one of the most visited destinations in the country. However, travelling by land into the city is somewhat difficult, partly because of the Alps. For this reason, the airport is large.

There are several shopping centres featured in the city, such as Nice Lingostiere, Nice TNL, Nicetoile, St-Isidore, Northern Forum, and the Trinity. The Promenade des Anglais is one of the main attractions of the city. Other attractions include Old Nice, Cours Saleya, the port, Chateau, and the Fort of Mont Alban.

The most popular ways to get into the city are by air or by sea. The port in Nice is typically used for business. The airport is the third-largest in France, falling behind two airports, which are located in Paris. There is also a railway system that connects the city to Paris as well as Marseille, and internationally to Belgium, Russia, Switzerland, and Italy. The city offers public transportation in the form of trams and trolleybuses. Car hire at Nice Airport is ideal for those who want to visit the surrounding areas of the city while travelling to the area.
