By passenger traffic, it's the busiest airport in Germany and the fourth busiest in the whole of Europe, with over 69 million passengers. And by cargo traffic, it's the busiest airport in Europe.

This airport covers over 300 destinations in 5 continents, rising to hold the honor of the airport with the most direct routes in the world.

Surrounded by Frankfurt city forest, the Frankfurt International Airport lies 12 km Southwest of central Frankfurt, very close to Autobahn intersection, a meeting point of the two most busy motorway intersection in Europe.

TERMINALS

Frankfurt International Airport has two terminals (labelled Terminal 1 and 2). They are connected by skyline people mover (monorail) and shuttle buses, which are free of charge and depart at regulated intervals of a few minutes.

Terminal 1: this is the bigger, older and busier of the two terminals. Annually it handles about 50 million passengers and has 103 gates with 4 concourses, labelled A, B, C and Z. And it hosts mainly Lufthansa and many other local and international flights. This terminal is split into five levels;

First level; the arrivals, where you can find shuttle buses, bus terminal, car rental desks, taxis, baggage claim and check-in facilities.

Second level; the departure, which is connected to C, D and E gates of terminal 2.

Third level; this is where you find the information counter, security check, amenities and various services.

Fourth level; this is where you go to refresh yourself with several food plazas and exciting activities to engage in.

Underground level; here you find the regional railway station.

Restaurants: Meyer Feinkost, later, Hermann's German sausages plus, Deutsch, Herberer's traditional bakery and food court.

Hotels: Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel and Conference center, Hilton Airport Hotel, InterCity Hotel Frankfurt Airport and Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt Airport.

Shops: Falke, Lufthansa, Their, REWE and Worldshop.

Terminal 2: it has only two levels, the ground level and level 1. Different levels give access to different gates. This terminal houses several airlines including, Air Berlin, American Airlines, British Airways, S7 Airlines, Delta Air Lines, China Airlines, Japan Airlines, Air France and many others. There are also services like car rentals, lounges etc.

Lounges: SKY lounge, Cathay Pacific, Air France/KLM.

Car Rentals: Avis, Hertz, Europcar Enterprise, Alamo, Sixt and Buchbinder.

Others: Visitor terrace, Play area (for kids).

AIRPORT TO CITY

The airport has good connections to every part of Germany and you easily get around either by train, car or bus. There are two railway stations, one for long distance high-speed trains and the other for near-by towns and cities.
