Wine Museum

Duration

clock30 to 60 minutes

Overview

Why not explore Austria’s largest wine museum- In the over 300-year-old vaults of the palace, there are 700 unique objects relating to wine and wine-making just waiting to be discovered – from historic barrels to Burgenland’s oldest Baumpresse (a basket wine press). Encounter the long history of Esterhazy’s “bacchanalian” side! For even back in 1666, the palace’s cellars could accommodate 280,000 litres, and servants – including Joseph Haydn – would sometimes be paid in “pails” of wine. From the study of vines and viticulture under the Esterházy princes to distillation or the production of wine and Sekt (Austrian sparkling wine), here everything revolves around the joys of the grape.
