Hinduism is the world’s oldest religion, according to many scholars, with roots and customs dating back more than 4,000 years. Today, with about 900 million followers, Hinduism is the third-largest religion, roughly 95% of the world Hindus live in India. Because the religion has no specific founder, it’s difficult to trace its origin and history. It is the compilation of many traditions and philosophies. The main theme of Hindu philosophy is Dharma (ethics/Duties), Artha (Prosperity/work). Kama (desires/Passion) and Moksha (Salvation). Hindu practices include rituals such as Puja (worship) and recitations, meditation, family- oriented rites of passage, annual festivals, and occasional pilgrim ages. Hinduism is commonly sub divided into six darsanas (philosophies), two school vedenta and yogam are currently the most prominent. Four major Hinduism modern currents are Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Shaktism and Smartism.
