Nestled in the mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan Rivers, this former royal capital is one of the most delightful towns in all of Asia. Small enough to explore on foot, the town reveals its charm and history at every turn, with gilded temples on nearly every corner and saffron robed monks strolling the quiet streets. The local markets offer produce, as well as silver and textiles; Hmong tribeswomen come here to shop.
