A History of Ireland: St.Patrick to the Celtic Tiger

Duration

clock5 hours

Overview

The story of Ireland is a heroic tragedy. A land of saints and scholars turns to war to defend itself against marauding Vikings and Norman mercenaries before falling to English power in 16th century. It would be 400 years of harsh oppression before an independent Ireland emerged in 1922, and even then much was left undone.

One this tour you will take in this tragic tale on the streets of the Irish capital visiting sites of historical importance such as, the General Post Office, Christ Church Cathedral, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Trinity College Dublin, and the National Famine Memorial. You will also meet important figures in Ireland's development such as the Viking King Sytrigg Silkbeard, the Norman mercenary Strongbow, King Henry VIII, the Liberator Daniel O'Connell, and tragic rebel figure Michael Collins.

We will finish the tour with how Ireland has developed over the last 100 years into a confident and wealthy European nation, with a pint in a historic Irish pub.
