What To Expect

This shore excursion of Hamburg begins directly in front of the cruise terminal. Our hosts will welcome you when your vessel docks and take you to a modern, air-conditioned bus. The journey takes 1.5-2 hours each way. An experienced local guide will be present upon your arrival, provide information on the local history; and lead you to the most prominent spots in Hamburg. This Hanse City is not only the most stunning port city in Germany but also the wealthiest in the country. It was seriously damaged by bombings during WWII yet has become the second most exciting city in Germany next to Berlin! In the 1960’s, The Star Club became renowned as The Beatles' venue and today its legendary nightlife district is known for its bars and red light area. During daylight hours, the vicinity around the old town with its picturesque canals is one of the best high end shopping districts throughout all of Germany. The two lakes at the heart of Old Town – Binnen and Aussenalster – bestow an aquatic beauty on this city.

On our tour we'll relish a leisurely stroll through historic downtown Hamburg and observe its magnificent Town Hall while learning about Hamburg's role within Hansasatic league.

We will also visit St Nikolai Church which remains a charred shell of a church; we'll hear about how near total destruction occurred here during WWII.

Afterwards we will explore Deichstrasse —the oldest street in Hamburg— cross over Trost bridge at Old City center, view Elbe River from Landungsbrucke river walk; then go to UNESCO World Heritage Site Speicherstadt where goods coming into & leaving out of this city were once stored & Hafencity—the newest area—where Elbphilharmonie stands as an amazing architectural masterpiece for everyone to see!

Once done touring, you'll have 1 hour for individual exploration & souvenir shopping followed by lunch before heading back towards port with at least 1-1.5 hours left until ship`s departure time.
