Head to Imlil and discover the stunning Atlas Mountains on a 3-hour guided trek. Wander through Berber villages, such as Ait Souka, Targa, and Imoula, and marvel at the irrigated terraced fields and trees that line the slopes. Enjoy a local lunch with an area family, then take in views of Mount Toubkal - North Africa's highest peak! Learn about Argan oil production at a co-op run by women and opt for a camel/mule ride (optional). Visit some authentic Berber homes in the High Atlas mountains too.

What To Expect

! This excursion is distinct. Above all else, it is always about experiencing the people, life and culture of the Berber mountain villages you’ll visit. We want you to leave with more than just pictures; we wish for you to depart with stories and memories of personal interactions with the individuals you’ll meet during your one or two day stay in the High Atlas mountains.

Beginning at 9am from Marrakech, after a two hour drive, you will arrive in Imlil valley – our departure point. Then, travelling like locals do: by foot or by donkey (for those who need it), there will be ample time for inquiries and discussion with your guide; they’ll do their utmost to ensure that you leave knowing much about Berber village life. Furthermore, walking allows for observation of small details – such as wildflowers, how Berber homes are constructed or certain rock formations – that would otherwise go unnoticed if one were driving through.

After taking local tracks and trails, we’ll make our way to a Berber home where tea and lunch will be provided. Depending on time available there may be possibilities to explore the village further: examining crops; exploring important nearby water sources such as streams, irrigation canals or springs.

During your walk there will be plenty of breaks given as well as chances for spontaneous interactions on the paths with locals who are sure to know our guides; they may even start up impromptu conversations! Eventually returning to Imlil center via an alternate route from before.

At nightfall you may feel physically tired but – hopefully - mentally refreshed from your cultural encounters throughout the day…and then ready for another busy day when back in Marrakech!
