Birding Tour to Lanin Volcano Base

Overview

    Drive through the Patagonian steppe to the base of Lanín Volcano. Near the National Park entrance, we will find the first patches of Monkey-puzzle Trees (Araucaria araucana) with impressive views of the volcano in the background. Araucaria is an endemic conifer, well adapted to the volcanic soils of northern Patagonia. We will follow the course of Malleo River up to the volcano base. There, we will leave the vehicle to hike on the trails of the area.

    TARGET SPECIES: Black-chested Buzzard Eagle, Variable Hawk, Andean Condor, Burrowing Parrot, Great Shrike Tyrant, Diuca Finch, Long-tailed Meadowlark, Peregrine Falcon, Austral Parakeet, Magellanic Woodpecker, Striped Woodpecker, Chucao Tapaculo, Black-throated Huet-Huet, Des Mur’s Wiretail, Patagonian Sierra-Finch, Thorn-tailed Rayadito, White-throated Tree-Runner, Austral Pygmy Owl.
