Overview

The building is one of Barcelona's most representative examples of Catalan Modernista architecture and was commissioned by Casimir Casaramona and designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, one of the three leading exponents of this architectural style, together with Antoni Gaudí and Domènech i Montaner. For this factory's design, Puig i Cadafalch was awarded the Annual Prize for Artistic Buildings in 1913 and it was declared a Historical Monument of National Interest in 1976. After a long period of inactivity, "la Caixa" bought the property in 1963 and decided to give it a new function as a social, cultural and educational centre. CaixaForum has become one of the most dynamic, active and lively cultural venues in the city offering an extensive programme of social, cultural and educational interest for all kinds of audiences.
