Duration

clock10 days

Overview

Climbing Carstensz is amazing trip. Jan Carstensz was a Dutch sailor who recorded it specifically while sailing in the southern coast of Papua Island. It became a burlesque when he reported it to the country about his first sight of equatorial glacier in the mountains. However, several hundred years later the evidence of glaciers in fact exposed in two other areas near the equator line, uncovered in Kilimanjaro-Africa and also in Peruvian Andes-South America. Unfortunately, this only three remaining tropical glaciers of the world, these days are beginning to shrink due to global warming, and are expected to disappear in the next few decades. Another summits part of Lorentz National Park with icecaps are Jaya Peak (4.864 m), Sumantri Peak (4.872 m) and East Carstensz Peak (4.813 m).
