Overview

The Centraal Museum has an extensive collection spanning ancient to modern art and design, city history and fashion. The historic convent building is also home to an internationally renowned collection of works by Gerrit Rietveld, including the iconic Red and Blue Chair and a myriad of other objects created by this versatile architect and designer.

In the paintings of Dirck van Baburen, Gerard van Honthorst and Hendrick ter Brugghen, you’ll discover the chiaroscuro, palette and subjects that characterised Utrecht’s celebrated Caravaggists, who inspired the likes of Rembrandt and Vermeer.

In Dick Bruna’s original studio, you’ll feel yourself in the presence of the great graphic designer, illustrator and children’s book author. After your visit, enjoy a drink and a bite to eat at our Café Centraal, overlooking the museum’s lovely courtyard garden. When the sun is out, the outdoor terrace is an oasis amidst the bustle of Utrecht.
