Overview

    Visit Sterkfontein  Caves in the Cradle of Humankind which was declared A WORLD HERITAGE SITE by UNESCO in 1999, because of its exceptional contribution to our understanding of Humankind History, and development over more than 3 million years.
    The Ape-man skull discovered by Robert Broom in 1947 is one of the fossils on display. The skull was later named Mrs. Ples; this skull rocketed Sterkfontein Caves into World prominence. The skull is estimated to be more than 2.3 million years old.
    Professor Ron Clarke discovered the little foot; an almost complete hominid skeleton aged about 3.5 million years old. 
    Homo sapiens, the species to which we all belong, evolved  at the Cradle of Humankind.
    Visitors are welcomed in a A 20 metre tall concrete visitor centre housing the following:
    - Homonym exhibition hall with highly informative displays.
    - A charming souvenir shop
    - A restaurant offering spectacular view of the surrounding and refreshments
