Cycling - Ronda to Olvera - 43km - Moderate Level

Duration

clock4 hours

Overview

Cycle from Ronda via small white villages to the hilltop town of Olvera; this cycling route uses mainly quiet roads throughout.

We pass through the small village of Arriate and on to the unusual village of Setenil de las Bodegas. Setenil sits in the narrow gorge eroded by
the Rio Trejo river and is famous for its cave-houses, built into the limestone rock walls of the river valley hundreds of years ago. Many of the cave-houses are still used today (with a few modifications) as shops, houses and bars. We generally stop for a quick coffee here before riding up out of the river valley, past dramatic limestone cliffs and on through farmland to the small village of Torre Alhaquime. A final climb takes us through the hills to finish at Olvera. This imposing hilltop town boasts a large Arab fortress and huge, twin-towered Renaissance church, visible for miles around. There is time for optional refreshments here before we return to Ronda in our minibus.
