Pitalkhora Cave in considered to be the oldest cave complex which started before Ajanta and Ellora. Located on ancient trade route pitalkhora caves are now part of reserved forest. One has to walk for half hour to reach the caves. Even though caves are not in good condition but carving of caves is unique and it is an attempt towards revolution in architecture of cave engineering. There are few places in the cave where one can find ancient paintings which date back to 1st century which are very similar to paintings in Ajanata Caves.
