Day Trip from Belgrade to Timisoara

Duration

clock8 hours

Overview

As the largest city in western Romania, Timisoara has been influenced by many cultures. It was used as a crossroads fortress by the Romans, conquered by the Turkish armies in 1552, and came under Austrian rule for two centuries in the early 18th century. Its eventful past has left its mark in Timisoara, and influences from many cultures can be seen in neighbourhoods throughout the city. Settled on the northern bank of the Bega River, the charm of this city lies in its distinct architectural character and vibrant cultural life. Often referred to as “Little Vienna,” Timisoara is home to year-round musical and theatrical performances, art galleries, and museums. It was also the first European city (second in the world only to New York City) to use electricity to illuminate its public streets.
