Devil's Nose Train Route to Alausí from Guayaquil

Duration

clock9 to 11 hours

Overview

    SOUTH ANDES
    Devil's Nose
    Alausí - Sibambe - Alausí

The biggest obstacle faced by the Trans-Andean railroad was the Devil's Nose, a mountain with almost perpendicular walls. To overcome this obstacle, a zig-zag track was built that overcomes a 500-meter drop in just 12.5 km of vertiginous ascent or descent, and that remains an impressive engineering work today. In addition, we will discover the Chanchán river hole and the traditions and worldview of the Puruhuas in Sibambe.
