The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, famously known as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo situated in Cairo, Egypt houses an extensive selection of ancient Egyptian relics. It contains 120,000 items with a portion on display while the rest are kept in storerooms. Constructed in 1901 by the Italian construction business Garozzo-Zaffarani to a design by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the structure is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, it is open to visitors. In 2020 it will be superseded by the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
