Overview

    Recognized as the true attraction of Syracuse, the Archaeological Park of Neapolis contains famous masterpieces from both the Greek and Roman periods, testimonies of the millennial history of the city
    It is the most famous monument of the archaeological park and is one of the largest and most important in the ancient world. It has ancient origins and already existed in the 5th century. B.C.; we know from literary sources that Aeschylus staged "Le Etnee" in 476 BC Its present form, however, refers to a unitary project, realized in the III century. B.C. from Hieron II, as part of his Neapolis arrangement program according to the principles of Hellenistic architecture of the time. Carved into the rock of the Temenite hill, the theater has a very large cavea, with 67 orders of steps, divided vertically.
