The House of the Virgin Mary (or Meryem Ana Evi in Turkish) is a spot where, as per the beliefs of many people, Mary, the mother of Jesus, spent her last years. It is supposed that she arrived at Ephesus along with St. John and stayed there from 37 to 45 CE until her Assumption or Dormition according to Catholic doctrine and Orthodox belief respectively.

Ephesus stands out among Turkey's hundreds of ancient cities and classical ruins as the grandest and most well-preserved one. In fact, it's considered as the best place on the Mediterranean to get a feel for what life was like in ancient times. Ancient Ephesus was an important trading city and center for worshiping Cybele -the Anatolian fertility goddess.
