On this tour of Kyoto's historic Gion districts, we'll closely examine the historic nature of the city, visiting Zen temples, shrines, and a famous kabuki theater to better understand the role of geishas in Japanese history—and maybe even spot one ourselves. Led by a local expert, we'll navigate Kyoto's backstreets in the waning hours of evening, learning about local architecture, religion, and how geisha culture fits into it all. By the end of this tour, we'll have a deepened appreciation of Kyoto's cultural history, and may have even spotted a geisha.
