This is one of our relaxed "Liquid Lunch" day trips from Tirana, designed for people who enjoy good food and a glass (or several) of wine.
Our "Soviet Wine & Albanian Lamb" day trip runs each Thursday, and takes us east to the forgotten little city of Librazhd. Here we'll visit an extraordinary local winery, which only started offering visits and wine-tastings in 2019. Don't expect a stylish tasting room, or any video presentations. Pretty much all the infrastructure and machinery dates from just before the Russian-Albanian split of the early 1960s, when the winery's equipment was shipped over from Soviet Union. Not a lot has changed since...
We'll spend a couple of hours looking around the winery, and of course tasting the produce. Then, suitably lubricated, we'll make the short stroll through the centre of town to nearby Restaurant Biçaku, which is famed in the region for the quality of its spit-roast lamb. Here we'll enjoy a relaxed and boozy lunch.
