Overview

    Mount Meru

Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located 70 kilometres (43 mi) west of Mount Kilimanjaro. At a height of 4,562.13 metres (14,968 ft), it is visible from Kili on a clear day. Located just north of Arusha, it is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, and the fourth-highest in Africa. Meru serves as a great warm up to Mount Kilimanjaro or a complete standalone hike in it of itself. The crowds that can plague Kilimanjaro are non-existent here, allowing for a solitary, peaceful trek. Accessed through Arusha National Park, there is only one route used to climb Mount Meru (Momella Route).
