Full-Day Unzen Onsen and Mount Fugen Hiking Tour

Duration

clock6 hours 30 minutes

Overview

Unzen-Amakusa is Japan’s first national park. Established in 1934, it spans multiple prefectures, and covers a vast area of active volcanoes, primeval forests, and varied plant and animal life.

This guided hike focuses on the park’s most famous inland sights at Unzen City in Nagasaki Prefecture. Starting at the famous hot springs of Unzen Onsen, you’ll travel by car to the Nita Pass and ascend its thickly forested slopes by ropeway cable car. Then, it’s time to get walking! Over the course of about five hours, you’ll explore the rich ecology of the Mt. Unzen volcanic cluster and visit some of its most famous peaks: Mt. Fugen — the tallest peak — and Mt. Heisei Shinzan, which was formed in a volcanic eruption in the early 1990s.
