After a long slumber, on October 24th 79 AD Vesuvius woke up and caused an apocalyptic eruption that annihilated the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The latter was uncovered in the 18th century and is now renowned worldwide for its archaeological marvels such as the Atrium with its mosaic house, the Deer house, the Thermal spas of Forum, and Neptune and Amphitrite's mosaic house. Visiting Herculaneum takes less time than Pompeii; it can be done within an hour-and-a-half tour which includes transfer from Naples plus English commentary.
