Duration

Overview

Today, the neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights conjures up images of wealth and exclusivity. But the Heights has middle class roots and was once home to blacksmiths, coopers, artisans and tavern owners.

Over 600 buildings in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District pre-date 1860, which gives the feeling of a place frozen in time. In this tour, we will touch on topics such as the American Revolution, the Underground Railroad, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Promenade, and the world’s oldest underground railroad tunnel. You will visit the oldest house in the neighborhood - which very few people are aware of - and the prior homes of some incredible celebrity residents. We’ll end the tour at the Brooklyn Women's Exchange, founded in 1854. Tours are dog-friendly.
