Overview

Klaipeda is one of the oldest cities in Lithuania, and was formerly known as Memelburg in 1252. Today Klaipeda is one of the most famous resorts of the country, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea. It has the only seaport and cruise ship dock in Lithuania. The city is also known for beaches and plenty of great entertainment facilities, including museums, cinema centers and shopping centers, parks and natural preserves, historic sites and churches. In Klaipeda Old Town you will face the oldest buildings of the city, dating from the middle of the 18th century. They are warehouses built in the endearing Fachwerk style. This construction, influenced by Germanic culture, has been used since the foundation of the city. This method of construction was especially suitable for the marshy soil, as frame constructions are lighter than stone. There you can find small art galleries, museums, souvenir shops and cozy cafes.
