Hike through one of Japan’s most sacred and remote, forested mountain landscapes in the Kumano Mountains. This region is home to the centuries old UNESCO listed Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails leading to the three grand shrines of Kumano. The most challenging of the six famous pilgrimage trails is the Omine Okugakemichi, intentionally following a more difficult path over mountain ridges to embrace danger and demonstrate one’s fortitude. There is very little information available in English with no other commercial tours presently run on this trail.
