Lidice and Terezín: Holocaust History Private Tour

Duration

clock8 hours

Overview

This visit is essential to understanding the complicated history that unfolded in Czechoslovakia in 1941, when the region's thousand-year-old Jewish communities were deported through Terezín to death camps elsewhere.

To begin we will visit Terezín (Theresienstadt). Terezín was completely different, both psychologically and physically, from any of the hundreds of other camps. As a "model camp", it functioned differently than normal concentration camps. Learn what happened to so many innocent people through actual artifacts, children's drawings, poetry, and other rare items which survived their owners to speak so eloquently for them.

On our return, you will see the site of Lidice, a Czech town that was wiped off the planet by the Nazis in retaliation for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich by Czech partisans in Prague. Heydrich chaired the January 1942 Wannsee Conference, which formalized plans for the Final Solution to the Jewish Question.
