Tour Details

    Overview

Visit the two major temples of the ancient Egyptian capital of Middle and New Kingdom: Thebes. A professional English-speaking guide will collect you from your hotel and take you with air-conditioned private transportation to Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple in order to show you where Pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Hatchepsut and Ramses II conducted their sacred ceremonies. The Karnak Temple complex is comprised of holy lakes, hypostyle halls, obelisks, pylons and shrines. Meanwhile, the Luxor Temple adorns the banks of the Nile river gracefully; it was not devoted to a deity or pharaoh but rather to the Rejuvenation of Kingship and center of the Opet Festival.

    Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Temple of Karnak, Karnak, Luxor Egypt

You will go to the Karnak Temple, one of the world's most important religious temples after Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It started being built around 3,500 years ago and construction stopped during the Ptolemaic era. This temple includes holy ponds, hypostyle halls, obelisks, pylons and shrines. There is also an open air museum which requires buying a separate ticket like the Mut precinct. Your guide will tell you all about its history while giving you plenty of time to explore it on your own between its ancient walls.

    Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Luxor Temple, Luxor 23512 Egypt

You will visit the Luxor Temple which was created not for any god or pharaoh but for celebrating the renewal of kingship as well as hosting the Opet Festival. In ancient days there used to be sphinx alley connecting these two temples that archaeologists are still uncovering today. Many pharaohs were crowned here either physically or theoretically (such as Alexander The Great who said he was crowned in Thebes without actually going there). You can admire many religious features such as shrines belonging to Theban Triad or a Roman chapel later transformed into a church with Abu Haggag mosque on top of it.
