Overview
Luxor is situated as the location of the historical city of Waset, which was known to the Greeks as Thebes. It has been often described as one of the most spectacular open-air museums in the world due to its many temple edifices, such as Karnak and Luxor, which are visible within its contemporary metropolis. On the other side of the Nile River are located monuments, temples and tombs from the west bank Necropolis - including Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens.
