Overview

Enjoy finding out about Napier’s rich and interesting M-ori history on a Koru Enterprises 1.5 hour walking tour. Meet your guide outside the iconic “Pania” statue, on Marine Parade. Our friendly guides will share local M-ori p-rakau (stories) and legends from a bygone era.

Tour includes visiting the M-ori chapel, inside Waiapu Cathedral, where you will hear about how the elaborate and ornate M-ori tukutuku panels, Bishop’s chair, and the Processional Cross were designed and created. We then walk around Cathedral Lane, towards “Napier Antique Centre”, which features a stunning k-whaiwhai pattern throughout the building.

We carry on along Hastings street to the historic ASB bank, and hear the wonderful story of the building’s striking M-ori design features.

Afterwards, we cross over Marine Parade towards the Soundshell, finishing the tour by the moana (ocean), and listen to how M-ui fished up the North Island. Tours are mobility scooter, wheelchair, and pushchair friendly.
