Nature trail - Glacis Noire (Praslin)

Duration

clock2 hours

Overview

The trail is both botanically and ornithologically interesting. Many native species of plants and endemic birds such as black parrots, bulbuls and blue pigeons can easily be seen. This walk is within the national park, and is mostly in open areas.
From the early part of your adventure, you will see splendid views over the sea of Cousine island and beyond to Silhouette. As you climb higher, you’ll be further rewarded with sights of the northeastern coast on St.Pierre and Chauve Souris islands. The last 180m of the trail is in an endemic palm forest of latanyen palmist, and of pandanus that opens up at the top of Glacis Noir. It is in fact due to microscopic blue green algae that give the rock its dark colour, hence its name meaning “black glacis/slope”. All the islands around Praslin can be seen on this walk in all their splendour, including La Digue, Curieuse and Aride.
