Overview

    In a small group you will cycle at an easy pace through the landscape and visit hidden windmills that tell the special story of the industry in the 17th century around Amsterdam. Visit an original neighbourhood with 17th century workers' houses and discover what makes the merchant houses in the zaan region so special. You will also visit the Zaanse Schans with its clog factory and cheese tasting.

What to Expect

    Wet meadows that lie just above, or even below, the water table. A paradise for meadow birds. A farm landscape with long ditches, pollard-willows and cows, turning mills and swaying reed beds. You cycle in a small group on the dikes and look almost beyond the horizon. Welcome to Old Holland's countryside and the oldest industrial area in the Netherlands. This is the place where hundreds of windmills once stood, now only a few remain and you will visit one (outside the touristic area) to see how it is done. You will make a stop at the Old Dutch village "Zaanse Schans" with a cheese tasting and clog making.
