Outdoor Tea Ceremony at "Chatou"

Duration

clock1 hour 30 minutes

Overview

When tea was first cultivated in Japan about 580 years ago, Ureshino quickly rose to be one of the biggest tea producing areas in Western Japan, even winning best tea titles multiple times. Ureshino exemplifies Japan’s finest tea. “Ureshino Tea Time” was started in the summer of 2016. “Ureshino Tea Tourism” is a program to connect Ureshino’s most historic cultural pieces: tea, hot-springs, and porcelain. The ultimate part of this is the “Tea Space Experience”. In an open air tea room surrounded by picturesque scenery, you can experience a tea ceremony put on by a tea master. The tea ceremony itself is a performance of brewing a series of distinct locally grown teas. From careful measuring to adjusting water temperatures, see how different teas are brewed to their optimal conditions. Feel yourself transported to another world, as though by a stage performance, as the tea is steeped. This tea ceremony is a sacred one which can only be performed by tea makers.
