    Rated among the best wildlife and bird watching spots in Costa Rica, a trip to Palo Verde National Park is sure to be a special thrill. Inside the park, embark by boat along the Rio Tempisque inside mangrove forests through a remote wetland sanctuary that contains one of Central America’s largest concentration of aquatic birds.

    Some 3000 aquatic birds nest here including white ibis, roseate spoonbills, anhingas, wood storks, jabiru storks, and the nation’s largest colony of black-crowned night herons. In addition, there are exotic and endangered birds, jaguarundis, crocodiles, peccaries, armadillos, deer, monkeys, coatis, reptiles, insects, and butterflies.

    Afterward, stop for a special lunch to sample typical Costa Rica fare. On route back, stop to visit indigenous pottery makers
