Paps of Anu Mountains - 4 hours hike in Hidden Ireland

Duration

clock4 to 5 hours

Overview

We will meet at the starting point just 15 km from Killarney town. Be prepared for a steep climb right after the start. The path takes us through a forest with a broad selection of native Irish trees. From the first top, you'll have a magnificent view over the valley that we will cross to reach the famous Paps of Anu mountains.

First stop is the wild mountain creek that flows into the river Flesk. Rapids and cascading waterfalls cut through the landscape. Next up in a bend of the creek is an abandoned village. Enjoy the same views the people had ages ago and wonder why they have left a beautiful place like this. Further along the rugged road you will see the bog lands where the Irish harvested turf for heating and cooking aeons ago. The road continues along a hidden valley with mountain streams and small waterfalls. After this we ascend the Western Pap mountain where we enjoy the amazing views from the top at 700 m high.
