Overview
Our initial stop is Perge, located roughly 15 km away from Antalya. According to mythology, it was founded by Trojans led by the oracle Kalhas. This ancient city boasts remarkable Roman structures such as a theater, stadium that can fit 10,000 spectators, Hellenistic gate, agora, baths, columns along the main streets and a nymphaeum.
In the fifth century BC Aspendos was among the first cities to mint coins. It flourished in Ancient Pamphylia and acted as a major trading hub for southern Anatolia. Moreover, Aspendos had a school of philosophy which was studied by many renowned scholars.
Aspendos Amphitheater has become quite popular amongst tourists since its renovation in 155 AD. With its incredible acoustics and décor capable of seating up to 55,000 people; it is frequently used for concerts & festivals and other cultural events.
