Dachau Concentration Camp was the first to be opened by the Nazis, the longest open, and the training school for SS officers. It is a tragic truth that many of the ruthless and cruel practices used by the Nazis throughout the Third Reich period came from Dachau.
The KZ (Konzentrazion Lager/ Concentration Camp) was originally created for Political Dissent. Outspoken opponents of the Regime including priests, communists and other free thinkers were the original inmates. As were other undesirables like Jews, Homosexuals, Anti Socials, Sinti, Roma people and Polish.
For many in the Nazi administration, Dachau concentration camp was the most important in the system and while in operation was a complete microcosm of the entire system.
As a tour guide you need to have a special license to guide on the memorial grounds. We only use licensed guides who will wear their badge throughout the day.
