Perge is identified with Pamphylian Greek city and it was ruled by Persians, Athenians, and Persians again. Alexander the Great occupied Perge at one point in his expedition. The worship of Artemis was well known here and festivals for her were celebrated annually. Coins from the place bear her name and that of her temple.

Aspendos could have been founded by Greeks coming from Argos. Its trade in salt, oil and wool made it very rich during its 5th century BC peak period.
