Hanoi has a worthy range of day and night markets. Those markets can be indoors and outdoors and night markets are more like a social event instead of a shopping occasion. This actually does not mean that you cannot find great bargains at a night market. The best place to go market shopping is by visiting the Old Quarter. With its many side streets and corners, this massive place is designed to get lost in. Simply go with the flow, and see where you will end up.
Come to the market, you often use key Vietnamese words such as "Bao nhiêu ti-n"- (How much is this- – pronounced: bow nyu thien) and "--t quá". (Too expensive! – daht quah). When you are given an initial price try a few "Oi Gioi Oi’s" (Oh my God! – pronounced: oi zoy oi) and you'll find things will go a lot better.
