Tour in Tiradentes and Congonhas

clock1 hour

Located 70 km from Belo Horizonte, in the Alto Paraopeba region, Congonhas receives tourists from various parts of Brazil and the world to appreciate the great work of the baroque artist Antônio Francisco Lisboa, better known as Aleijadinho. At the Bom Jesus de Matozinhos Sanctuary, master Aleijadinho sculpted the famous images of twelve prophets in real size in soapstone.
Another attraction of Congonhas are the six chapels that make up the Jardim dos Passos in front of the Basilica, representing the Via Sacra with beautiful cedar images also made by Aleijadinho. For all its richness and grandeur, this set was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The friendly Tiradentes, located at the foot of the Serra São José, is part of the lands that extracted hundreds of kilograms of gold during the gold cycle in Brazil. The city today is a true open-air museum, as it carefully preserves its historic center, fountains, buildings, chapels and churches.
