GOLDCAR RENTAL

David Bell a local guide in his Google review gave Goldcar rental a star saying it is expensive and highly misleading about insurance requirements when booking online and I quote:

“Expensive and highly misleading about insurance requirements when booking online. You think you have bought fully comp insurance only to be told you need to buy further insurance when you pick up the car. Also things like extra drivers are charged at a large premium where as rivals will some times include an extra driver at no charge or a much lower premium. The car provided was fine but having used Goldcar a few times and now having tested a rival I won't be going back to them.”

  • Julie Bryanton Google reviews also said they:

“Charged me €250 for a scratch so faint that it wouldn’t even photograph. Car next to me was covered in mud, so no damage could have possibly been seen, was told the car was fine. What a joke.”

  • Tania Gonzalez-Ingram also gave Goldcar Rental 1star saying:

“If I could give Goldcar Rental a -27, I would. The worst experience renting a car so far. We rented a car for 3 days in Almeria, Spain. Due to the type of credit card we have, we opted not to take out the extra insurance. We have rented cars throughout the world and we have never have had a problem. We stayed at a private home and the car for the most part of our trip was parked in a private garage. When we returned the car and was inspected by an employee, he notice DIRT (and yes I said dirt) on the left side of our bumper. He told us that our car had been in an accident and that there was a visible scratch. NO! JUST PLAIN NO!!!! We were also informed that it would cost 300 euros to fix the damage. I can’t even put to words how far fetched that quote was and how incredibly upset we were. We cleaned the area with a T-shirt and tried to prove to them that it was dirt. The Goldcar employees refused to look at the car again and proceeded to argue that the damage was done and we had to pay. When I questioned why 300 euros, he stated that the car had to be repaired and repainted. I am in disbelief of the exaggeration. I can’t even understand as to why would you take advantage of your customers. This was the first time and our last time ever renting with Goldcar. I didn’t read any reviews before renting a car with them and now we are paying for it. Please if you are considering renting a car, do yourself a favor and rent with a reputable company even if it means that you have to pay a little more. On this trip we rented 3 different cars in 3 different countries with Avis and we had zero complaints.” The review can be seen here: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=Goldcar+Almeria+reviews#lrd=0xd7a996595555555:0x7c6d3e8b7c04deb0,1,,,.

Tips to avoid car rental companies RIF-OFFS

There are many car rental companies out there with the intention to rip-off customers, in other to make more money for themselves. As a tourist, you will surely be a victim if you don’t avoid it. Most of these companies target tourists especially if you book a car on arrival. So here are some few tips to follow to help you get out of the situation if it presents itself.

ALWAYS COMPARE CAR RENTAL EXCESS INSURANCE

Insurance policies are very important, car rental companies put it in place to help people (tourists) save money in the event of an accident or any minor damage to the car. Without an insurance policy, it becomes the sole responsibility of tourists to pay for a rental car if he/she causes any damage to the car. The damages cost very high in the thousands, so these insurance companies act as liberators thereby paying the excess fees. In reality, it is just a rip off to get customers. Most car rental companies sell insurance to their customers at a higher rate, this will in turn increase the initial hiring cost. As tourists, always compare insurance policies before using a particular car rental company.

To Avoid Rip Off, You Must:

  1. Go for standalone car insurance, theyare the best and they will cost you less than what car rental companies offer.
  2. Always make arrangements fortravel insurancewhich covers everything including car hire damages.
BOOK IN ADVANCE

It is better for you to book for a car in advance before getting to your destination, as it will save you time and money.

FUEL POLICY

Always find car rental companies the allow full-to-full fuel policy. This means you get to return the car, with the same amount of fuel that was in the car during collection.

So avoid car rental companies that tell you to buy fuel upon pick-up at the airport, you will end up spending more and using less fuel you paid for.

EXTRAS

If you will need baby car seats, satellite navigation systems and other items for your trip, pack them from home before your flight. This is important because you will end up paying more for extras like this to the hiring companies, when you can even use that money to buy them.

Toll Gates and toll fees in Almeria

Spain has a lot of tolls and toll gates around its cities, so when you are in Almeria, you will need save some cash to pay toll fees. Tolls can be paid by cash, credit cards and electronic toll machines (requires special installation in the car).
