What It Is
Versailles Palace was the opulent home of the French monarchy from 1682 until 1789. The centre of political power in France, it was also known for being the social centre too due to the fun and flamboyant court lifestyle headed up by Louis XIV.
The gardens and grounds of Versailles are vast, covering 250 acres with tree-lined paths just perfect for cycling down and the landscaped Royal Gardens are considered to be the most beautiful in Europe.
30 minutes by foot from the palace of Versailles lays the Estate of Trianon which contains the Grand and Petit Trianon palaces with summerhouses, pavilions, and more gardens - The playground of King Louis XIV the fun-loving 'Sun God".
The Queen's Hamlet was the rural retreat of Queen Marie Antoinette. She would escape to her 'country cottage " complete with farm, dairy, and mill away from the hustle, bustle, and drama of court life.
Your Experience With Versailles by Bike Day Tour
Meet your guide at the allocated spot in central Paris and make your way as a group onto the train to Versailles from where you'll collect your bikes and get kitted out with helmets and rain gear if it's needed.
Then, you'll peddle your way around the city of Versailles, stopping at the market to buy supplies for a picnic lunch held next to the Grand Canal later in the day.
Once the supplies have been purchased (own cost) you'll cycle through a portion of the beautiful palace gardens, your guide stopping you every so often to tell you some history of the palace and the people who lived here.
After lunch next to the canal you'll park up your bikes and enter the Palace to see the Grand Apartments, the Kings Bed Chamber, and the iconic Hall of Mirrors, learning about each of these magnificent rooms with an audio guide.
Once you're done at the palace you'll cycle through the gardens to the Estate of Trianon where the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon palaces are found along with the private estate of Marie-Antoinette; The Queens Hamlet. Your guide will stop you here and share information about the fun that went on here and why retreats away from Versailles Palace were needed.
