The first encomendero in Acapulco was established in 1525 at Cacahuatepec, which is part of the modern Acapulco municipality. In 1531, several Spaniards, most notably Juan Rodriguez de Villafuerte, left the Oaxaca coast and settled in the village of Villafuerte where the city of Acapulco now stands. The city is famous for its beaches and its nightlife, as it houses several huge and well-known night clubs that have been around for hundreds of years. Some of the best places to visit in Acapulco include La Quebrada, Icacos Beach, Roll Acapulco, Isla El Morro and Acapulco Bay amongst others.
