    A water dam on the Nile River in southern Egypt, constructed during the reign of Gamal Abdel Nasser and aided by the Soviets. This helped greatly in mitigating the effects of the Nile. Used to generate electricity in Egypt. It has a length of 3600 meters, a base width of 980 meters, a summit width 40 meters and a height 111 meters. Its body's volume is 43 million cubic meters per second. Construction began in 1960 with an estimated cost was one billion dollars out of which one third was written off by Soviet Union before completion. 400 Soviet experts worked on building the dam and completed its construction in 1968. The last 12 generators were installed in 1970 and it was officially opened in 1971.
