Paestum Greek Temples - Private Tour

Duration

clock8 hours

Overview

Gem of our cultural heritage and known for its spectacular Doric temples, the legend attributes its construction to Jason and the “Argonauts”. Paestum, at first called Poseidonia in honour of Poseidon, God of the Sea, soon became one of the most prosperous cities on the Mediterranean Sea. Its decline coincided with the fall of the Roman Empire. The journey from Naples lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes. Once there, our driver will assist you with the purchase of the entrance tickets. Not far from the temples there is the Archaeological Museum of Paestum, which contains many of the most important artefacts in Southern Italy. Of course, the temples of Paestum are a first-rate tourist attraction. Also the famous German poet, Goethe, visited them in March 1787, just three decades after they were rediscovered, and was strongly impressed by them. Besides the temples, Paestum has a lot to offer, indeed especially during the high season there are many superb open-air events close to the temples.
